Post 3 of 106

Alabama foot rot:

What exactly is Alabama Rot?
CRGV, commonly known as ‘Alabama Rot’ is a doggy disease of unknown cause that affects all breeds and doesn’t discriminate in terms of age or weight.
What’s the worst that can happen?
Unfortunately, if not spotted early, it can lead to sudden and potentially fatal KIDNEY FAILURE
1. Sign 1: Skin Lesions
2. 3
3. 4

Skin Lesions
Appearing as a distinct swelling, a patch of red skin, or open and ulcer like.
Sore Skin
Skin sores not caused by any known injury, commonly found below the elbow or knee.

Kidney Failure
Within 2–7 days outward signs of kidney failure; vomiting, reduced hunger and unusual tiredness.
STOP THE ROT:
Knowing the warning signs is key to treating the disease. If caught early your vet can evaluate if your dog has contracted CRGV.
It’s thought that the disease is picked up on the paws and legs on muddy walks, so always:
• Wash off woodland mud
• Check for signs of CRGV
• If in doubt call the vet
